Welcome to 1x Learning!

We are so happy to finally welcome you to 1x Learning! We have been working very hard over the last couple of years collecting tutorials. Now we give you tutorials for over 500 hand-picked extraodrinary 1x images to take your photography to the next level. All the tutorials have been proof read by 1x photographer and professional proof reader Mandy Schoch to ensure that they are accurate, easy to follow and a delight to read. New tutorials will be added daily, we have another 1000 tutorials waiting in the pipeline!

Learning has always been one of our most important values and was one of the main reasons we started the site. 1x Learning is using the same concept as in our book "Photo Inspiration" which has been the top selling photography book on Amazon. The only difference is that in 1x Learning you get 5 times the amount of tutorials, longer texts, more extra material, maps and new tutorials daily! Each tutorial contains the background story, technical info, post-processing and tips about how successful 1x photos are made. Follow behind the scenes, see how the magic is done and unveil all the secret recipies for getting published on 1x!

What you need to develop your photography is not more megapixels or another expensive prime lens. A great camera doesn't take great pictures, but a great photographer can take fantastic pictures with any equipment, even a pinhole camera. Joining 1x Leraning can be the best photography investment you have ever made. Many of the photography masters became famous by learning from other masters. Now you have the collective wisdom of hundreds of successful 1x photographers at your fingertips! We belive that you are not born an artist, but that anyone can become an artist with the right ideas, inspiration and instructions. No matter what kind of photography you are interested in there is something for you!

Check out 1x Learning here and read 10 tutorials for free. In order to read all the 500 tutorials you need Pro membership. Find out how it works in this short video clip:

Big big thanks to all excellent contributing photographers and the book editors who made this possible!

I commend Ralf and the team for this initiative. The 'look' is very slick and pro, and in keeping with 1X's image and personality. I think that this hold huge potential if correctly applied. At this stage only for Pro members, and although that is a pity, one can understand the need for revenue drivers in order to keep the site pop-up free. A special salute to Mandy Schoch and supporting staff for the proof-reading, and rewriting / editing of the tutorials. It must be challenging to work across so many genres and cultures. The narration is sound - a healthy mix of fact and story. Mandy must be a walking encyclopaedia of photographic techniques by now. Lastly, a thanks to the photographers who unselfishly submitted their secrets for others to learn from. This is in keeping with what 1X have always strived for, and which I personally did not participate in. Shame on me!
Congratulation! Great & Fantastic! Good job Ralf, Jacob, Thomas, Editors Team, & All Photographers.
Hi Joey, very happy to hear you enjoy it, I hope you will find a lot of new inspiration!
I hate to put a bit of a downer on this - it is certainly a lot of effort. But honestly, having perused a number of tutorials I find them a little superficial. I imagine the average standard of photographer who looks at them is pretty high so the 'well I took it into Lightroom added +30 contrast, -10 vibrance, and +50 clarity is a little dull'. The smart sharpen settings in Photoshop are hardly exciting. To me they are all a bit like those '5 things you can do to improve your composition articles - rule of thirds, fill the frame, leading lines etc... tutorials'
Hi Robert, thanks for the feedback, in some of the tutorials the post-processing is very thorough and in others not so prominent, because other things are more important, like the story. Especially if you look in the Montage category you will find tutorials where the editing is described in depth. However, we will keep this in mind when we collect new tutorials!
I have to agree with Robert here, at least for what concerns the free tutorials available. Not all of them, but some of them are superficial. I think the original raw file should always be showed (the end user should understand how the post production changed the shot), as well as the lights schema for staged photographs. On the other hand I find the architechture tutorial very well done. The idea is awesome, let's keep on improving it.
Thanks for the feedback Paolo, any constructive critque is welcome. I agree that before and after images and lighting diagrams are important, in some older tutorials they might be missing, but we always ask for it when we collect new ones.
Nice work, both coding and proofreading! Enticing formatting. Agree with the necessity of a prominent link to the photographer's portfolio
Dear Anna, very glad to hear you like it,, we will fix the links!
Looks good! :) I am looking forward to learning about some categories I do not know much about yet.
Thanks a lot! I think this is one of the greatest benefits with the learning platform that you can get inspiration for completely new motifs and learn from the best!
Well done, I'm proud to be part of this platform. May I just suggest that the author's names link to their portfolio on 1x?
Dear Bobby, thanks a lot for your contribution! Yes, we will link the photographers' names and there are also many other improvements coming up!
