The first theme for our Monthly theme contest is: Abstract.
Abstract photography is about creating a visual image that can not be immidiatly associated with objects or places in the real world. This can be accomplished by isolating a part of a well known object or enviroment, thereby putting it out of context for the viewer. It can also be done through creative use of light, colors and textures to create certain impressions. Skilled abstract photographers can twist and turn natural scenes from our ordinary life and make us look at them in a completly new way.
One photographer who has proven especially skilled doing so is Paulo Abrantes. With his clever compositions and effective use of black and white, his work in the abstract genre is truly spectacular. We are very glad to accounce that Paulo has agreed to be the guest judge for this month's Abstract theme.
The guest judge will select the top three winners. The rest of the positions are determined by public vote.
The winner of the 1st prize receives $250 in cash and 1 year of Unlimited membership (worth $239).
Winners 1-3 will receive a license for PhaseOne's new imaging software Capture One Pro (worth €229). For more information on Capture One Pro, click here.
You can upload your entry anytime during August. Then the voting will start. The winners will be announced by the end of September.

I personally like the change from WT to MT. And it's vey interesting to read all comments about it!
But I'm afraid that I have done something wrong. I submitted my entry 'Dye' to the Monthly Theme AND sent it for curation. Oops!
How can I take it back from curation? Or is it automatically drawn back if submitted to the MT? I think it would be good if that is automatically done in the future, or that a message is shown, telling that the image has been drawn back from curation, when submitting it to the MT. |

The uploading and voting are done separately. When this month is over, the entries will be revealed and the voting will begin. This has the advantage that it doesn't matter if you upload your photo early or late in the month. Everyone still has same chance to gather votes. |

 | marianna hi, i have my photo on my site 1x profile and never send it to curation, i used just to send some photo to weekly t. using the cog wheel, it was much easier way for me to send some older photo from my portfolio...now, i am not much a competitory person so best of luck for the new Monthly theme! |

I understand that it may be a little more work to go to a separate uploader to submit your photo. The advantage is however that you don't have to use an upload slot to participate in the contest. |

I have published the picture in my profile on 1x.com and I submit them to the curation.
At the same time I submit the same photo to the "Monthly theme" competition.
And?
Photographs can not be published in the gallery 1x.com, or - if published - will be thrown out of the competition?

| Ben Rea I think he is asking if it needs to be a new image that is not already in our portfolio. I have the same question. I just uploaded a photo but I thought it would just upload it to the theme, not double the image already in my portfolio. |

The Monthly theme has a separate uploader. It is perfectly alright with images that already are in your portfolio. The only requirement is that they must not have gone through curation and been published. |
